My Own Blogging-By-Mail

I was so jealous of EBBP (Euro Blogging By Post) and BBM (Blogging By Mail). Imagine yourself receiving a mystery parcel from another cooking-blogger! How exciting!Actually I could join BBM, if only I could spare some time off my current project to think, wrap up the package and send it through a reliable courier service.

But yesterday I received a not-so-mysterious food parcel from another cooking-blogger, whose food blog I already linked long before she realized I even exist. Mbak Rieke of Sexy Chef sent me Sugar Palm Fruit preserves! Or we Indonesian called it Manisan Kolang-Kaling.

Balls of Joy (SHF #13: The Dark Side)

I never have milk chocolate stocked in my pantry. It’s always dark chocolate. I keep some white chocolate (it’s not chocolate!) mostly for garnish. So, one day, when I was craving reaaaally bad for something chocolatey, I turned left-over cakes into balls and balls of dark chocolate. All placed in black paper cups. Dark mood, sweet teeth. Just in time for Sugar High Friday #13; happy 1st anniversary! This time, Kelli of Lovescool is hosting the event (read her lovely roundup here). I hope i won’t be disqualified because I use a little bit of white chocolate, only for decorating purpose. Trust me.

Brudel - the classic one

Bluder Klasik

The French has Baba Au Rum. The Austrians have Kugelhopf. We, Indonesians, have Brudel.

A classic blend between bread and cake. Is it cake? Is it bread? No need to decide. Just smell the milky yeasty fragrance that fills up your nerves with memories of ancient kitchen, when our anchestors baked it in copper bundt pan on firewoods.

This is Jane Sipasulta’s old family recipe, posted on DapurBunda back in 2004.

Not too Hot, Not too Sweet

tea

I love tea. And the tea loves me.

I have tea everyday ‘coz it makes me happy. It relieves all-day stress, calms me down, gets me to my senses that everything’s gonna be alright.

In Ramadhan like this, a cup of tea is all I need to break the fasting at Maghrib time.

I don’t need anything else. Just a cup of tea. Not too hot, not too sweet. Simply heaven!

Mango, Mom’s style

My Mom used to make this every Ramadhan. She simply called it Es Buah (fruit cocktail). But in fact, she never made it with any other fruits. It was always only mango. At times, she threw in some kolang-kaling (sugar palm fruit) only because I asked her to. And it was by far the best refreshment I’ve ever had.
